Blackheads

Blackheads are simple pimples that do not have skin over them. Because there is no skin they are exposed to the air, and the top layer of gunk oxidizes turning blacking in colour. Now by cleaning this pore, blackheads are gone. They mostly appear on top of your noses. It makes it rough. People with oily skin and large pores are more prone to blackheads. But the good thing is, their skin won’t wrinkle as quickly as those like dry skins. Hence it’s quite a blessing when you are 60!

Before we start looking at how to get rid of blackheads, it’s important to look at the problem itself, understand it and blackheadsknow its causes. Technically, a blackhead is an open comedo. A comedo is a skin follicle (pore) full of excess keratin (a kind of skin building protein) and sebum (greasy oil-like substance secreted by sebaceous glands). Oxidation makes the blockage appear black at the top and hence the name ‘blackheads‘.

The question is why the skin produces excess sebum and keratin. The excess keratin comes from the un-removed dead skin cells and the excess sebum (oil) production can be a result of hormonal changes that the human body undergoes during puberty, pregnancy, while taking certain drugs or while going through certain health problems like Poly-cystic Ovarian Syndrome. Another factor that might be causing blackheads or acne is genetics. This problem is hereditary, and learning how eliminate blackheads may be a family remedy.

Since it is a blockage, in order to get rid of blackheads the first step is to cleanse the skin and rinse off all the matter that may clog the pores. Using a good face wash that suits your skin type will help improve your skin hygiene and minimize such problems. A good skin cleansing routine will take the excess oil and dead skin off and thus prevent the buildup and clogging.

Methods to Get rid of Blackheads

Exfoliation with things right inside your cabinet:

Make a thin paste using baking soda and water, lemon juice and sugar or you can have salt and sour cream. Clean your face and rinse it once with water. Then apply the exfoliator in light circular motions on the blackheads. Don’t be too rough as you could damage your skin. Do this for 3-5 minutes and enjoy your clean face.

Do a honey pat or egg white to pull it out:

Do not wet your face from the beginning. Use honey that is very sticky to make it work effectively. Pour a small amount of honey on your fingers and start patting the areas on face where you want to remove the blackheads. The honey will stuck to the stuff in your pours and pull it out with your fingers or wax paper. It even acts like an antioxidant so that the pores won’t oxidize and turn black as quickly. Do this for 3-5 minutes and rinse your face with water.

Egg white is the lease favourite because of its pungent odour. Apply the egg white as a mask over the blackheads area and let it dry for over 15 minutes. Than with a warm wet washcloth scrub the white slowly off your face. The plus point of doing this is your skin will be super smooth and soft.

Soak the oils with clay mask :

Combine 1 tablespoon of clay and 1 tablespoon of vinegar or pure water and stir it nicely until the lumps are gone. Spread the paste over the black heads area and leave it for 15-20 minutes. Again with a warm wet washcloth gently wipe off the mask.

Ways to prevent Blackheads :

  • Avoid using harsh face cleaners. It makes the skin produce more oil, which means more blackheads.
  • Wash your face twice or thrice a day with natural or herbal sources.
  • Avoid overdose of makeup.
  • Make homemade peel off mask and use it at least once a week.
  • Use tissue paper to soak the oils in your face before it accumulates.
